I used to call myself a Catholic pro-life feminist until I watched this TED Talk.

By feminist, I don't mean the secular types who would lambast a man for holding a door open for a lady. If I was, why would this video tug at my heartstrings?

The attitude of holding a door open for a woman is the same as when Tom Cruise extends his hand to Kate Middleton, then Duchess of Cambridge as she goes to ascend a set of steps while she is wearing a constricting, form-fitting evening gown: being a gentleman. Am I claiming here that all secular feminists resent men who hold doors open for women? Absolutely not! I However, I've heard stories of some secular feminists belittling a man who held a door open for them. Also, since I identified myself as a pro-life feminist, being pro-choice is out of the question. While I still support autonomy and rights for women, it is never at the expense of the most innocent among us. Babies are human beings deserving of all human rights, no matter what stage of development they are at. They are not merely a clump of cells, even when they are at that stage. Not all pro-lifers are religious. Even secular pro-lifers would agree with what I've said about babies and abortion. I follow several secular pro-life Twitter accounts and they've posted tweets echoing what I've said.

Now, I call myself a Catholic gender equality advocate for the same reasons Cassie Jaye stated in her TED talk. While it is important that women aren't in a position where they're afraid of being forced into having sex at the drop of a hat, men's rights are equally important. After all, it is mostly men who get injured or even killed on the battlefield protecting our country and our freedom. It is mostly men who suffer accidents at work and are injured or even killed as a result. Men take their own lives at higher rates than women. And men get abused, too. There are more women's abuse survivor shelters than men's abuse survivor shelters in our country. That's a problem.

Comments Hey, let's chat and have some good discussions! In order to have good conversations, there needs to be some rules. 1) Be polite, charitable, and civil 2) Long comments are most welcome! 3) Please one comment at a time. I do better with one-on-one conversations. Positive comments make my day! I read all the comments and will do my best to respond to them. May God bless you and keep you! And if you're not religious, I wish you all the best!
