Jimmy Akin Is Amazing
For those of you who don't know who Jimmy Akin is, he is a Catholic convert and apologist. He has been defending the Catholic faith for a very long time now. He loves Star Trek and Pirates of the Caribbean. So if a Catholic apologist who has been defending the faith for as long as Jimmy Akin has enjoys the Pirates of the Caribbean films, I'd say Catholics can enjoy the POTC movies and be just fine spiritually.
In addition to his work as a Catholic apologist, Jimmy is on two podcasts: the Secrets of Star Trek and the Secrets of Doctor Who. He is also the host of his own podcast: Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World, which I listen to often. Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World is all about exploring weird things, from the Loch Ness Monster, the Ancient Egyptian afterlife, to Kabbalah and pyschic spoon-bending, all from the twin perspectives of faith and reason.
Having never met the man personally, I'd say Jimmy Akin is a solid guy. He's thoughtful and reasonable. He doesn't lean toward either extreme end of the spectrum in the Church. I often identify with religious people who are more well-rounded and use their critical thinking skills. A person who is mature in their faith yet well-rounded and reasonable is very helpful for someone who suffers from scrupulosity. Someone who suffers from scrupulosity often experiences black-and-white, irrational thinking.
