I've Got A Really Good Idea

01/17/2022

As someone who loves fanfiction as both a writer of it and a reader of it, it saddens me to see so much fanfiction full of smut and lemon. Now before anyone gets upset and calls me a prude or "prissy," I am not saying sex is bad or disgusting. I believe sex is a good thing when it occurs in its proper place: inside of marriage between a man and a woman. As a Catholic, I believe the purpose of sex is twofold: unitive and procreative. To put it simply, sex is designed to unite the husband and wife and make babies.

Some people may believe that there is nothing wrong with smut and lemon, both of which are porn. "Why is looking at porn wrong?" Critics and opponents ask.

I want to make clear why it is wrong while also clearing up some misconceptions of why people, particularly Catholics, believe the production and consumption of porn is wrong.

Porn is wrong because it is designed to inspire people to use other people as a thing.

It is designed to elicit lust within the user.

Misconception: Porn is wrong because it shows the naked human body.

Truth: Porn is not wrong because it shows the naked human body. The altar wall of the Sistine Chapel has a gorgeous fresco depicting the Last Judgement. The people in the fresco are completely nude.

In 1565, loincloths were painted over the private parts of the nude figures in The Last Judgement painting after the Council of Trent banned the depiction of nudity in religious art.

In 1994, the loincloths were removed by order of Pope Saint John Paul II. Pope Saint John Paul II is the author of Theology of the Body.

So I got the idea of creating and running a website for clean fanfiction.

I've even thought of a name for the website: Pure Fanfiction.

Romantic fanfiction would be allowed on Pure Fanfiction, but it has to be clean romantic fanfiction. No smut and lemons. Same-sex romance fanfictions would not be allowed, either. So sorry, but no Harry x Draco and Pete Buttigieg x Chasten Glezman-Buttigieg or Callie x Arizona and Meg Giry x Christine DaaƩ fanfiction allowed.

Now, platonic Meg Giry and Christine DaaƩ fanfiction would absolutely be allowed.

However, that does not mean that all literature depicting active LGTBQ+ lifestyles is bad. It depends on how active LGBTQ+ lifestyles are depicted. There are pieces of literature that depict active LGTBQ+ lifestyles as negative, immoral, and harmful.

I realize that my views on LGBTQ+ issues are highly unpopular.

Likewise, James Bond fanfiction would be allowed, but it cannot have smut or lemons and 00Q fanfiction would be out of the question.

Now even though I hope to turn this website idea into reality, I'm not leaving Belletristica. I like Belletristica.

To leave Belletristica would mean to leave behind a family of fellow writers who are in the same fandoms as I am and who share similar beliefs and values...again. When I moved from Wattpad to Belletristica, I left behind a family of fellow fans and writers, even some fellow Catholics. But fellow Catholics were not the only ones I grew relatively close to during my wonderful time on Wattpad. I had a family of fellow Phantom of the Opera fans and phanfiction authors. They were my Phantom family. Phantom, MCU, and James Bond are currently my main fandoms.

So to leave behind an established writer and fan family for the second time would be painful. But there are other reasons I like Belletristica besides the community. The concept and UI are both really cool. And there are cool events.

Also, I don't think I can run a fanfiction site all by myself. So if anyone is interested in helping me run a fanfiction website, let me know. I haven't created it yet, but I would like to get this idea off the ground.

Comments Hey, let's chat and have some good discussions! In order to have good conversations, there needs to be some rules. 1) Be polite, charitable, and civil 2) Long comments are most welcome! 3) Please one comment at a time. I do better with one-on-one conversations. Positive comments make my day! I read all the comments and will do my best to respond to them. May God bless you and keep you! And if you're not religious, I wish you all the best!
