God Loves The Autistic Mind (Review)

03/18/2023

God Loves The Autistic Mind is a book by Catholic and autistic priest Father Matthew Schneider, LC. It is a prayer guide with meditations for Christians on the Spectrum and those who love us. The first part of the book dispels myths and misconceptions about autism. It also talks about prayer. The second half is all meditations for Christians on the Spectrum and those who love us.

What I love besides the meditations is the pro-autism stance of the book. This position is set up very early on in the book by Father Matthew busting myths and misconceptions about the condition. He very clearly refutes the idea that autism is caused by demonic attacks. He asserts that it is not something that has to be prayed away, and even a number of those with severe autism would not take a cure if one was ever developed.  He very clearly states that it is a neurological condition, which science backs up.   Faith is not opposed to reason and science. The Church/Faith is not Scientology.*

*Scientology, also known as the Church of Scientology, was established by sci-fi author L. Ron Hubbard. You know, the "church" that Tom Cruise belongs to (though I'm praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 PM as often I can in the hopes that he'll leave the darn "religion"). Despite its name, that cult is not in any way genuinely scientific. It's just a mind-controlling organization with a long history of crimes and human rights abuses, all of which are concealed by a collection of absurd beliefs that, quite honestly, sound like they were plucked out of a sci-fi story. And knowing of Hubbard's background as a sci-fi author, they probably are.

Comments Hey, let's chat and have some good discussions! In order to have good conversations, there needs to be some rules. 1) Be polite, charitable, and civil 2) Long comments are most welcome! 3) Please one comment at a time. I do better with one-on-one conversations. Positive comments make my day! I read all the comments and will do my best to respond to them. May God bless you and keep you! And if you're not religious, I wish you all the best!
