Anxiety Disorders

08/06/2023

This is a follow up to my post on OCD and idolatry. In Christian circles, it's not unusual to hear that anxiety is a sign of idolatry. The intolerance of uncertainty, which is a common symptom in many anxiety disorders, is also labeled as idolatry. This is not helpful because people who have anxiety disorders often have a serotonin deficiency.

For people with anxiety disorders, the problem isn't the fallen human heart. The problem is the deficiency of a neurotransmitter in the human brain. This deficiency, among other neurological factors, is why it's so difficult for individuals with OCD to not carry out compulsions, even when they know they shouldn't engage in compulsions.

Comments Hey, let's chat and have some good discussions! In order to have good conversations, there needs to be some rules. 1) Be polite, charitable, and civil 2) Long comments are most welcome! 3) Please one comment at a time. I do better with one-on-one conversations. Positive comments make my day! I read all the comments and will do my best to respond to them. May God bless you and keep you! And if you're not religious, I wish you all the best!
