Angel of Music was not one of Satan's titles before his fall

11/21/2022

This excerpt from TV Tropes, talking about one of the tropes in The Phantom of the Opera, is wrong. The Angel of Music is not another name for Satan. Many Christians get the idea that it is based on this verse from Ezekiel in the King James Bible:

Ezekiel 28: 13

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

In contrast, the Bible on the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) website translates the aforemetioned verse like this:

In Eden, the garden of God, you lived;

precious stones of every kind were your covering:

Carnelian, topaz, and beryl,

chrysolite, onyx, and jasper,

sapphire, garnet, and emerald.

Their mounts and settings

were wrought in gold,

fashioned for you the day you were created.

So  this verse  says nothing about music or being the Angel of Music.

So, I declare "Angel of Music" was not a title held by Satan  before his fall.  Case closed.
